Wall Street Firm to Log Birthplace of Green Movement

Most people don’t know this but Cortes Island, British Columbia was where Greenpeace and the environmental movement was born.  The founders of Greenpeace had homes there when they were creating the organization.   But now Cortes is about to be logged by Island Timberlands:

Island Timberlands owns big sections of Cortes Island. I.T., in turn, is owned by Brookfield Asset Management (BAM), a Wall Street investment firm. Coincidentally – or not – BAM also owns Zucotti Park, the site of the original Occupy Wall Street camp.

But as you might expect, the locals are not taking this lying down.  Check out their story here.
