Like everything in this city, the number one problem for the arts is affordability. As talented people in the city flee for more cost effective pastures the arts community wants to know what city candidates are planning:
VANCOUVER — Sandy Garossino is running as an independent candidate for Vancouver city council. Best known for helping lead a successful campaign against a mega-casino at BC Place, Garossino minces no words when asked what tops the arts and culture agenda in the upcoming election.
“I think the biggest challenge the arts community faces,” she says, “is the same one that everyone faces — affordability. How do artists flourish in a city with narrowing options for everybody?”
Vancouver councillor Heather Deal, who is seeking re-election with the Vision team, agrees.
